Lab Updates

Papers, awards, new members, talks, and media coverage from the BIA Lab.

๐Ÿš€ New Tools

Two new packages released: v-InfoTrace and v-TimeLKFlow

v-InfoTrace extends u-infotrace with multichannel and 3D+time causal information flow analysis, and v-TimeLKFlow implements time-varying, multivariate Liangโ€“Kleeman information flow via Kalman-filter estimation. Both are available now on PyPI; papers are forthcoming.

๐Ÿ“„ New Paper

Two SAM-SPOT papers published in Nature Communications

Our SAM phenomics framework is now published: the methods paper introducing the SAM "phenome" and SPOT tool (Nat Commun 17:8409), and the organoid paper linking morphodynamic phenotypes to genotype perturbations (Nat Commun 17:8410). Both published 17 August 2026.

๐ŸŽ‰ Lab Launch

BIA Lab officially opens at Vanderbilt University

The Biological Information Architecture Lab has officially launched at Vanderbilt University within the Center of Computational Systems Biology. We are excited to begin our work decoding the architecture of biological information at our new home.

DVE migration paper published as eLife Reviewed Preprint

"Quantitative multi-scale morphodynamic analysis reveals ratchet-like collective DVE migration and epiblast retrograde cell flow during anterior patterning in the mouse embryo" is now available as a peer-reviewed preprint on eLife (joint first authors: Stower MJโ€ , Zhou FYโ€ ).
